Breaking Crypto News: TrustWallet Exploited
Hey, crypto fam, I know it’s Sunday, but I’ve got some breaking news today, so grab a cup of joe and buckle up for the latest in the cryptoverse.
TrustWallet Exploited, $170K Stolen, and Reimbursements on the Horizon
Security Breach: Trust Wallet discovered a nasty vulnerability affecting new addresses created between Nov 14–23, ’22, using their Browser Extension. Hackers snatched $170k, but Trust Wallet has patched it up and offers refunds.
Here’s the scoop: Two exploits were responsible for the heist, but Trust Wallet’s got our backs. They’ve been working round the clock to secure at-risk funds, and most are safe now. However, there are still around $88k in affected addresses, so move your funds ASAP!
Trust Wallet played it smart by delaying the disclosure to prevent more attacks and minimize damage. They’ve sent one-on-one notifications, helping users transfer funds to secure addresses. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Based OGs: Despite their best efforts, two likely exploits still managed to swipe $170k. But Trust Wallet ain’t leaving their peeps hanging — they’ve set up a user reimbursement process. Check out the claim process at <click here>
Now, don’t freak out! You’re NOT affected if you only use the Trust Wallet mobile app, imported wallet addresses created elsewhere into the Browser Extension, or used the Browser Extension to create a new wallet before Nov 14 or after Nov 23, ‘22.
On the flip side, you’re affected if you receive a warning notification about this vulnerability in the Browser Extension and created the wallet address in the Extension between Nov 14–23, ’22. If that’s the case, follow Trust Wallet’s instructions.
Zoom out: Trust Wallet wants to assure us that security is their top priority, and they’re committed to making things right. They’re grateful for the white-hat community’s contributions and continue to welcome bug bounty submissions to keep their ecosystem secure.
